Gandhi National Memorial Society (GNMS) has been the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Implementing Partner since 1997. The project implementing work of GNMS is done by 3 staff members’ i.e Project Co-ordinator, Associate Project Officer and Accountant, all of whom work for the Refugee Project, since the UNHCR-GNMS partnership was established for refugees residing in Maharashtra and Goa. GNMS has a long association with UNHCR for humanitarian work which is very much in keeping with Gandhian principles of peace, non-violence and World Brotherhood. Due to the continuous support from the UNHCR team it is possible for GNMS to continue this humanitarian work. In Maharashtra and Goa, we have about 1000 Refugees from 25 different nationalities. GNMS is supporting these Refugees and Asylum Seekers in all aspects. The Refugees feel better after they visit GNMS and discuss their concerns.
All individual mandate refugees in Maharashtra can access UNHCR protection through GNMS without having to travel to Delhi.
